Post Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Quadtastrophe?
It's a 2-and-a-half day celebration of roller skating! It's bunch of fun skating events for skaters of all ages and genders. It happens the same weekend as Portland's other big derby invitational but it's a little less formal (and a lot less productive).

When is it?

Where is it?

What is there to do?
Lots of stuff! (we hope) The schedule of events isn't published yet, but it will be soon and we promise it might feature some of the following:
      * Skating tours of Portland
      * Skate parks on quads (yes, bowls and pipes... to skate on)
      * Jam skating at the historic Oaks Park rink
      * Co-ed derby scrimmages
      * Marathon-style derby event on an outdoor banked track

Who's gonna be there?
In addition to any skater who wishes to trek Portland, Quadtastrophe is organized in part by Portland Men's Roller Derby and we hope to host representatives from other area men's and women's leagues. So it's mostly a derby-centric crowd, but not all of our events revolve around the flat track.

How do I sign up?
You don't! But you're welcome to spout off about your mad skating skills and taunt others here on the forum until the weekend arrives.

How much does it cost?
    Zip, zilch, nadda.

Do I need insurance/helmet/mouth guard/parental supervision/beer coozies/lunchbox/AED?
Officially no. But in our opinions it's a good idea to have all of these things. Your parents can reload your beer coozie and hold your lunchbox while cheering you on. Quatastrophe is like a pick up basketball game or sandlot baseball- you participate at your own and it's your problem if you get hurt- there's no overriding governing body to sue and pretty much everything is in public parks & spaces. Your USARS is no good here.

No age restriction? 4 reelz?
Within reason. This is still an adult-oriented activity and not all events are appropriate to all ages. Use your best judgment or the judgment of your parental supervision.

But what about Derby Daze?
    Do Both!
We're big fans of RCR & Derby Daze! In fact we plan on crashing Friday night's jam skate, attending both bouts, and winning the Saturday after party! We're scheduling Quadtastrophe in such a way that you can easily attend the best parts of both events all weekend long!

What if I have a really great idea for a fun skating event I want on the schedule?
    Bring it!
Or rather send it. Or submit it. Just let us know and we're happy to get your event or the "Official Schedule" once it comes publishing time.

Umm... Why?
Alas the skaters behind Quadtastrophe have too many testicles to take part in Derby Daze. So if you're a derby widow dragged to Portland by your girl or a referee who can only stand a couple hours of split-pack-call arguments or a veteran derby skater who doesn't need another blocker workshop- join us! We're the free, less productive alternative to the Daze.

How will I know if the schedule changes?

What Happens if it Rains?
Outdoor events (skating tours, skate park tours) aint gonna happen if the ground is wet. Find something else to occupy your time!
Indoor & Covered events (including scrimmage, jam skate) will not change.

Post Re: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What Sort of Wheels Should I Skate On?
    Round ones, preferably.
Use outdoor (soft) wheels. Most of Quadtastrophe is outdoors and may require some outdoor skating to get from place to place.
The only exception to this may be scrimmages where we're on a smoother surface and skate parks- typically smaller & harder wheels (like those used on skate boards) are better in skate parks.

I prefer softer outdoor wheels as outside skate parks.

What does that even mean?

I was referring to what Freewill wrote. It didn't make any sense.
